on a random note, i got a new laptop yesterday! (:

oh wells. i was just thinking about the things that i used to think about when i was younger, and it is really quite cool to see that there are still questions that i have yet to answer. the beauty of innocence.

perhaps by writing about them here, i might be able to get a good answer that i would be able to accept (:

hm. as far as my memory goes, i think the first question involved police cars in drama serials. i always think “why the police always put on the siren when they arrive at the crime scene? obviously the criminals (who are always present by the way) would be alerted and run away before the police actually arrive!”

yeah, many chinese drama serials used to have this scene. and i am referring to way before all the police dramas became sophisicated with forensic stuff and like weird plots like the police being the bad guys. the setting is always almost the same – the criminals are like torturing the victim, then the police sirens are heard, then the criminals run away.

i always thought that the police should start learning to be smart and not raise the alarm. oh wells.

the second question is a bit different, cause recently i have been talking to some people about it. they just laugh. but in primary two i seriously thought it was some pandora’s box question!

the question is actually simple. “why are love triangles known as love triangles?” with all honesty, you cannot have a love triangle, unless you bring in homosexuals. cause it goes like this – one boy, two girls or one girl, two boys. the two boys/girls obviously would not fall for each other in this case (remember, i was primary two!) so i guess we can only call it a love twig right? cause there are only two lines, each leading up to the popular person.

frankly, i think the only thing that makes sense would be a love square. or rectangle. or parallelogram. yeah. that fits perfectly! (:

yeah wells. i don’t think i can remember so much, besides the question about whether pressing door close twice in the RJ lift would make the door open cause pressing the numbers twice is the opposite of pressing once. but that is quite, whatever, so never mind.

oh yeah good job xinyang! TOP INDIVIDUAL FOR CHEM OLYMPIAD. wow.

oh yeah, and i just watched singapore vs thailand asean football championships final, first leg. super drama. i never expected it to be so wild. haha. but no, i think i should have expected it since i went for the singapore vs malaysia match on sunday. but the players were not so wild, it was only the audience.

but today’s match beats all.

good luck singapore, i hope you all will not get whacked hard in thailand on sunday.

haha today was a great day of sorts, not exactly cause it was my birthday, but cause i went back to pathlight! and yeah well coincidentally they were celebrating birthdays for the january babies in the office and yay! i got to blow the candle (:

but oh wells, the day would have been better if there was actually an enrichment program going on! i got my days all mixed up, and there was no enrichment after school today. which means i didn’t get to meet the kids! i got to see the little track 1 kids, but they are the new ones, so i didn’t really get the chance to say hi cause they were going back to their classes for lessons. ): haha.

18. beer, m18 shows, and clubbing? like i probably will only do a m18 show. haha. i have like a serial dislike for beer and wine (they taste like crap.) and uh, clubbing is like totally not my type. yep!

anyway i realised that i have grown in terms of the things that i want in life (: presents and surprises are really nice, cause well, they are free and cool. haha. i used to get like.. some uncountable number of presents for my birthdays, cause somehow or other i seem to used to tell people that my birthday is like on some day near and *hint*presents*hint*!

but like nowadays, i don’t even bother to tell most people about my birthday. okay more like i do tell, but not somewhere near the date. and i am very happy when i receive sms greetings wishing me happy birthday! as well as yeah in real life. cards are really good too. and i’m very happy that a lot of people sms-ed me happy birthday! presents are just… something extra, something that you can live without. but they are nice all the same!

in the first place, i’m not exactly like the best person to buy presents for, cause i have like this gigantic varying field of interests, like i would also be interested in everything, so most of the time people have completely no idea what to get me. so like they ask then i’m like “don’t know, don’t need!” … well cause i don’t know what i want either. haha! unlike wy, just get some slamdunk or bsb or lotr thing (oh i think i am leaving something out.) or js, just get some SPONGEBOB thing! haha. okay no, we are all mature people now, so we should get each other mature gifts!

basically i think there are things more worth looking out for. sure, birthdays are still special i feel, but presents may not always be the best idea to make you feel special on your special day. (:

anyway thinking about special, i was thinking about how people often like to fantasize about being special and unique. for example, being gifted, able to mindread, see visions etc. humans are quite contradictory i feel. we are a social group, and if seen from the big picture, we really do act the same way as everyone else most of the time, and hardly anyone deviates from the pattern.

but yet, we still seem to have this overwhelming desire to fantasize that we do have special powers that others do not. i think trying to differentiate yourself from the crowd in terms of academic ability and sporting ability is commonplace (it is the pattern), but why does paranormal powers seem to be so attractive, though elusive?

i see visions.

yay today i went to get presents for venetia and grace and zhunwen. lol venetia and grace have been complaining that i’m ungrateful! cause my presents to them are like.. one year late. but oh wells! i told them if they went for 404 gathering i will give them their presents but they did not go! so it is not my fault. haha.

anyway i was going to go to j8 by myself to get the presents, but coincidentally i met my very nice ogling darryl at the amphitheatre! so i “forced” him to accompany me to get presents. lol. but he is super mugger, reading his chem notes while walking around. as i have said in my previous entries, the j1s are too enthusiastic about mugging. (:

but seriously, i think birthday presents are a weird affair. they seem to be gifts exchange lasting throughout the year. it is like a cycle.

personally, i feel that people born at the start of the year generally get less gifts due to the school year. because school starts in january, it is usually the period where people start to get to know each other better. and precisely cause you are halfway between acquaintance-ship and friendship, it feels weird to give presents for their birthdays in january (because you don’t know whether they would give you one back). and if you are the type that thinks a lot, not giving presents would somehow imply to the other person that you do not really care.

anyway, as time goes by, you get closer to these friends due to the sheer amount of time that you spend with each other each day, the friends who are born in maybe, april, may, july, tend to get the first presents ever. and so the cycle repeats.

“because you gave me a present, i shall have to get you one too!”

but anyway, i think the people who are born during the school holidays are least likely to get birthday gifts. when people are not reminded of the birthdays, they do not feel guilty about not giving birthday gifts. oh wells.

oh oh and there is this thing about the prices of birthday gifts as well. but i think i shall leave that for myself to consider. it is quite difficult to discuss about that since everyone does have quite different opinions when it comes to birthday gifts.

anyway i need to save some brain cells to produce a brilliant yet simple game for function. (: yay.

it’s a year later

fascinating.

the j1 batch is both enthusiastic and mugger-like.

okay maybe they are just enthusiastic about mugging.

but actually it is kind of funny, cause the same stuff happened last year. like when our batch was given tutorial 0 to complete, everyone was like mugging in the canteen and library and stuff. we actually read lecture notes before the lectures! and mr tan was right. he correctly predicted that in 2 months, maybe 1% of the batch would read their lecture notes before the lecture. haha!

and yeah, our j1s are doing it too! they are mugging their lecture notes before lectures, and racing to finish their tutorial 0. my og mugs before school! and they do work on friday nights! well for me, i don’t believe in doing work on friday nights. for one, there is always saturday and sunday! (and when it’s saturday, there is always sunday! yay.) and you should always give yourself a break. (not too much by the way, unlike me. it’s a saturday!)

one of my oglings made me do a chemistry stochiometry question last night. i’m sure.

so yeah wells. i guess in 2 months, our j1s will return to their lazy selves like we did! hahaha. actually not really, it is kind of like cause season starts in term 2, so people get busy. oh wells.

anyway, i have somewhat found out what i want to do for my independent study for ki! i want to focus on “monogamy and polygamy”.  yep so cool! i have not really thought about how i am going to link it to the nature and construction of knowledge, but oh wells, i found a topic that i would be interested in! unlike time, or time travel. (haha wy and zr =P)

maybe i will examine the philosophical justificiation for monogamy. or the economical justification. maybe we believe in monogamy cause of social conditioning, and this social conditioning arises due to our desire for fairness. like if this guy has a girl, i should have a girl too. if some guys have 10 girls, there will not be enough to pass around.

or maybe it arises due to our need to reproduce. i guess when every guy has a girl, it would be more likely that there would be more babies. cause everyone gets a chance right? i mean sure, if this guy has like 10 girls, all of them can reproduce, but i think he would get tired. so it would be easier and more economical to spread out the work so that we have a big pool of next generation.

cool. and i so disagree with js about how any research or essay writing will kill your interest in any topic that you were initially interested in! cause i think i usually become more interested in a subject when i read more about it. (:

sometimes i just hope i was not so much of a gossip. and not so mean to people. haha. actually it is really difficult to judge where is the line to draw. like for some people it is so easy to just go on and on and on. oh wells. but i know when it gets too much at times. never mind i shall comfort myself in the fact that i will never be as mean as jieliang. he is like seriously ultimate.

today he took my phone after lion dance training cause he knew i forgot about it. and then like we walked all the way to like somewhere close to s11 and he was like, “eh zi lin did you take your phone?”

i didn’t think it was weird that he asked that question cause lossy left our phones on the chair! and then i was freaking out cause when vanessa called my phone and it was OFF! i was like “oh crap that’s fast.” and then like he went to this ledge and placed my phone there and went “eh zi lin look! how come your phone is here?!”

stupid jieliang. at least i whacked lossy and him with my umbrella.

he must have done that cause i sent messages to justina on his phone. but i was helping him!

so ungrateful. hahaha!
